Shakespeare By The Sea is hiring crew and staff in support of the upcoming 2025 professional summer theatre season. The following positions are available:​

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

PRODUCTION/COSTUME ASSISTANT​

​​​

Shakespeare by the Sea performs outdoors in Point Pleasant Park, located in Halifax/K'jipuktuk. SBTS productions run in repertory, with actors appearing in multiple productions.

 

Shakespeare by the Sea seeks to create theatre that is inviting, inclusive, and accessible to all. In seeking to gather an ensemble that reflects the diverse community we serve, we strongly encourage submissions from artists of diverse cultural backgrounds, and will be prioritizing submissions from applicants who self-identify as members of underrepresented communities.

ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

RATE OF PAY: $700/wk

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 12 weeks

CONTRACT DATES: June 6 - August 31, 2025

HIRING RESTRICTIONS: ***This is a Canada Summer Jobs position. Applicants must be under 30***

JOB DESCRIPTION: ​This position reports directly to the Production Stage Manager, and is open to any member of Canadian Actors Equity Association. The ASM will assist in setting up and breaking down rehearsal spaces, ensuring all props, costumes, and set pieces are prepared and organized as well as track blocking, line notes, and other production details as directed by the Stage Manager. Due to the nature of our repertory rehearsal process, at times the ASM will oversee rehearsal when the PSM is already in another rehearsal.

​

Other duties will include: Maintaining and managing props and costume pieces during performances, ensuring they are in place and in good condition.​ Supervise backstage operations during performances, ensuring actors and crew are in position and cues are executed smoothly, ​

Monitoring outdoor performance areas to ensure safety measures are in place for actors and crew, addressing hazards promptly.​ The ASM will act as a liaison between the Stage Manager, directors, and cast to relay important updates or changes.​

PRODUCTION/COSTUME ASSISTANT

RATE OF PAY: $700/wk

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 12 weeks

CONTRACT DATES: June 6 - August 31, 2025

HIRING RESTRICTIONS: ***Applicants must be returning students at a Nova Scotia post-secondary institution***

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position reports directly to the Costume Designer and will assist the Costume Designer in all aspects of building costumes for the 2025 season. The Production Assistant must be able to use professional sewing equipment, and must possess excellent time-management skills, with ability to work in a team environment or alone. After the opening of the summer season productions, the Costume Assistant will remain on staff, reporting to the Production Stage Manager, and be responsible for assisting with daily set-up and strike of the performance venue, assisting the Production Stage Manager with specific tasks during the running of the shows and upkeep and maintenance of the costumes through to the end of the season.
